Several who wrote were upset with the requirement for either a master's of divinity degree or having to take 4 units of clinical pastoral education, both needed to meet the basic chaplain career requirements.
Of course my role is not to defend the requirements but to simply share my "change career journey" to chaplaincy.
As you can see, I am passionate about chaplaincy as a viable ministry career.
My first task was to define the basic requirements, so I wrote "What To Do Before You Can Get Chaplain Jobs".
As I share my career change from parish ministry to chaplaincy, I wanted to be what I call a career information broker.
As a chaplain information broker, I especially wanted to provide a personal description of the chaplain employment process . Thus I provided "My Links To Chaplain Job Search Articles", which included details about my own chaplaincy career journey.
The first article was written to help potential chaplains understand the the chaplain employment process.
I stated that "Perhaps my story describing my entrance into chaplain training would be helpful to you if you are exploring a career change to chaplaincy." Click on this link to read My "Change Career Journey" to Chaplaincy, Part 1: Entry Into Chaplain Training.
I continued the story in Part 2, in which I further described the process of how to become a chaplain. Click on My "Change Career Journey" to Chaplaincy, Part 2: A Breakfast That Changed My Life and Started Me In Chaplain Training.
Finally, I wanted to provide examples of specific jobs that are available at any given time: Thus I wrote "To help you chaplain job search, you will find a listing of chaplain jobs -- both hospital chaplain jobs and hospice chaplain jobs -- to jump start your chaplain career at the website of the Association of Professional Chaplains.
Hopefully the above information about my journey to becoming a health care chaplain will help those wanting to explore the career change process.
Onward with purpose,
Chaplain Paul Slater
Parenthetically I said: "By the way, I have discovered there is a big difference in writing for the internet and writing to fulfill assignments. If you want to learn the difference, click on Could it be that what is already on your hard drive could be used to produce a website of your own?
